The History of Silk Ribbon Embroidery
Ribbon embroidery was first used to decorate the clothing of French kings and queens in the time of the American Revolution. Soon the British royalty adopted elaborate ribbon embroidered gowns worn at the English Courts. Silk ribbons have adorned everything from men’s coats to hats, purses, samplers, pillows, picture frames and quilts. Flowers of every color, shape and size have been created with ribbon embroidery, but other motifs such as insects, birds and even people have been creatively designed. Beads, sequins, pearls and even small mirrors have been used to embellish these beautiful decorations.
